Shardiya Navratri 2025 Date
This year the sacred event commenced on 22nd September (Monday) and concluded with Vijayadashmi on 2nd October 2025 (Thursday).Why Do We Celebrate Navratri?
The festival has its own significance and is celebrated to honour Goddess Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasura. The goddess fought with the Mahishasura for 9 nine days who gained the boon that no one can kill him.The 9 days of holy celebration is done every year to signify and remember the victory of food over evil. At the end, the tenth day is celebrated as Vijayadashami, or Dussehra. People offer prayers to 9 forms of Maa Durga, keep fast and visit temples everyday during this holy time. Fairs and gatherings happen across various temples in India.

Daily Observances & Key Rituals
- Day 1- 22 Sep (Pratipada) – Ghatasthapana (Kalash setup), worship of Shailaputri — the pure and strong form. Colour: white
- Day 2- 23 Sep (Dwitiya) – Worship Brahmacharini – symbol of devotion and penance. Colour: red.
- Day- 3- 24 Sep (Tritiya) – Honour Chandraghanta, the warrior goddess. Colour: royal blue.
- Day 4- 25 Sep (Chaturthi) – Will be worshipped as Vinayak Chaturthi.
- Day 5- 26 Sept- Worship Kushmanda, the cosmic creator. Colour: yellow.
- Day 6- 27 Sep (Panchami) – Seek blessings from Skandamata, the caring mother. Colour: green.
- Day 7- 28 Sep (Shashti) – Invoke Katyayani, remover of obstacles. Colour: grey.
- Day 8- 29 Sep (Saptami) – Offer prayers to Kaalratri for protection. Colour: orange.
- Day 9- 30 Sep (Ashtami) – A powerful day with Durga Ashtami / Kanya Puja, worshipping young girls as avatars of the goddess. Ideal to honour purity and divine energy. The ashtami is dedicated to Mata Mahagauri and people worship this divine form of Maa Durga.
- 1 Oct (Maha Navami) – Continue pujas; evening rituals lead into Vijayadashami.
- 2 Oct (Vijayadashami) – Idol immersion or burning of Ravana effigies to mark final victory.

- Fast: Many observe dietary fasts avoiding grains, onions, garlic; others practice Phalahar (fruit-only).
- Kanya Puja: On Ashtami or Navami, invite young girls (ages 5–9) and treat them as manifestations of the goddess.
