Day 2 Navratri Goddess – Maa Brahmacharini

Mata Bhramacharini is the second form (avatar) of Maa Durga, and the second day of Navratri is devoted to her. People across India worship and offer prayers to this form of goddess on this auspicious day.

She symbolizes penance and devotion, where the Brahmacharini is derived from Brahma (penance) and Charini (female follower). Goddess Brahmacharini is the unmarried form of Maa Parwati, who has undergone long and rigorous austerity (tapasya) to attain Lord Shiva.

The goddess undertook thousand years of austerity (tapasya) through meditation. She is the symbol of unwavering devotion and the transformative power of penance (tapysa) and thus she represents patience, meditation, strength, enlightenment, spirituality, and determination.

Goddess Bharamcharni is usually depicted carrying a rosary (Japamala) and a water pot (Kamandalu).
